EACCI the U.S. counterpart of ACCE

On December 5, 2002, ACCE Board Member, Bill Cronenberg, addressed a group from the Estonian American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EACCI), at the invitation of EACCI President Krista Altok Tassa. Bill was the first President of ACCE in 1997, and is a lawyer with the Hedman Osborne Clarke Alliance law office in Tallinn. The guests of EACCI that evening were treated to a sumptuous selection of snacks and beverages, including Saku beer. The subject of the talk was the basics of Estonian Business Law.

In spite of a major blizzard that day, close to twenty hardy souls trekked through the snow to the Estonian House on East 34th street in Manhattan to attend the event. The attendees were a varied group, including an Estonian businessman visiting New York, half a dozen EACCI members, and other guests who are unfamiliar with Estonia. The talk was held in an informal roundtable setting, and there was a lively exchange of ideas. Many in the audience had done business in Estonia and shared their experiences and opinions. There was a clear consensus that certain features of the legal environment like the Notary system will continue to confound the typical uninitiated North American. The implications of EU and NATO accession on the environment for American business were also discussed in some detail.
